LUNA MAE HEFLIN
The legend of 19th century Viennese nightlife performer Fiakermilli is part of the mythology of the city as much as the famous horse carriages that parade the city center. The gender pioneer, a female singer who performed in a male jockey costume against the law of the times, appears as a character in Richard Strauss and Hugo von Hofmannsthal’s opera as a rebel and instigator. Whereever Fiakermilli shows up, late-night orgies and unsrestrained deabauchery ensue.
Forever engrained in the Austrian consciousness, the story of the beautiful and high-spirited rule breaker is picked up by young Viennese creatives in this photo story, as Julian Pristauz and Laura Schaeffer take a stroll with the modern-day Fiakermilli through the venerable streets of the Viennese city center.
