A personal performative experience investigating the different female submissive roles in Japan through the contrasting hyper-saturated images associated with kawaii culture which dominate public and virtual spaces.
In spite of Japan’s decreasing birth rate, idol culture and maid cafes have now become more popular than ever.

Maintaining the position of the outsider, Gunawan documents the daily perceptions of the patriarchal system inhabiting the city and simultaneously plays the submissive role through the adoption of various uniforms.
